Turning MDF into gold in a northern town
I've always poo-pooed radiator cabinets somewhat, considering them a bit naff and not very profitable. There seem to be firms everywhere making them.

A client persuaded me to do some for her however, and I roped Phil in to give me a hand. This the result of a couple of longish days. The flash on the camera has made the grills a lot more see-through than in reality.

We got good money for them too! Maybe I've been mising a trick.

Cheers

Nice job indeed. The bespoke ones always look good because they are made to fit the space. They have got to be better to look at than a steel radiator.

Nice clean looking rad covers... Maybe I should start working on some designs using MDF, only problem for me is that it's 3 x the price where I live.

But at least the wines cheaper :p

Great looking. Did you consider incorporating grills into the top shelf to aid warm air flow? Those skirtings look deep !

I've a couple of these to complete for a customer with wide radiators. She wanted them in stained pine, but thankfully has now decided on painted MDF. She's not decided on the front though, whether to go for a grill or routered design.

The only problem with radiator covers are when you have thermostatic radiator valves fitted to the radiators. The covers tend to stop the valves working properly.

Looks good Brad, Dan, Alchy, Dunc, Susan.

How many brands did you fire into it? ;)

They look good - MDF I assume.

Where did you get the grills?

As Rob says what happened to the Alchemist - I thought that was a great handle :D

regards

Brian

They're very nice, but why people insist on hindering convection air flow, in times of soaring fuel bills.....I'll never know
