Tyler,

Saw your concise response to the floor tiles request.

I'm about to start my bathroom.
The walls (lathe & plaster) will have to come down as they are breaking away.
I was planning to put up plaster board, then a couple of coats of pva, then tile.

Is this the best way?
Any other suggestions?

Plasterboard, tape the joints but DO NOT Pva. Adhesive manufacturers are against it and in the past i have experienced some problems. I do hundreds on M2 on plasterboard and it gives the best finish. In fact when fixing large format tiles, the weight limit for tiles per m2 is greater for plasterboard walls that it is for skimmed plasterboard walls.
Modern adhesives are great, just choose a well know ( Bal is widely known) waterproof adhesive.
If you feel the need then you could use aqua panels but i have to say that if you use good adhesive and a waterproof grout ( it doesnt have to be epoxy etc). The key to a water tight grout is in the method. Use a rubber squegee to apply the grout over and area, then wait until the grout is firm in the joints but not too hard. Use a wet but not dripping soft sponge to wash the face of the tiles and apply a little more pressure when washing over a joint. If needed a piece of dowel rounded at the end to use to "strike" down the joints and push the grout further into the gap can be used. All that is need then is to buff the face of the tiles with a soft cloth. Easy !

Tiler,

Thanks for that.

I'm not doing the tiling myself, we are getting a firm in to do the lot.
Its going to cost but at least the SWMBO will be nagging someone else!

To be fair to her, I did promise to renovate the bathroom not long after we moved in - we have only been here 25 years

All I'm doing is ripping down the old walls & plasterboarding as you have saved me the job of PVAing !!
