Hi,

hoight I'd do it this way in case anyone else uses tint tools as well.

How do you sharpen things like 2mm gouges? If I put them on the wheel they are going to disappear fast so I've been using a diamond stone. freehand. Is there a better way as it is quirte hard to keep a flat bevel on them. Skew and parting tools are easy but these mini gouges are sods.

What about a slow wet stone? That doesn't cut nearly so quickly.

Just one question? How the hell do you use a 2mm spindle gouge without it acting like a maniacal spring? I know, you put the tol rest very close, but the distance from back to front of the CL1 tool rest is still to far!

I decided that it looks nice in it's likkle box and that where it stays

It comes in handy for some of these. They are all 1/12th size. On the table is a honey dipper. Try making that with an ordinary gouge.

Ermmmmmm, OK. Nice work and obviously better eyesight than me! They really are lovely peices!

On that silver thing, wotsit called now. Oh I remember an Arf-a-scargill. The £ was a Scargilll and that was an 1/2-a-s cause you needed a spanner to get it out of his hand. Sorry, I digress. Did you off center turn the silver thing :? :D

in a word, carefully  It's a bit like turning the really small stuff Pete... can't see what you're doing but somehow it happens :!:

Just what you needed to know, right :?:

Seriously, it requires a deft and delicate touch: the good thing is that steel that dia is cheap enough

if you use a spindle master type flat top and round bevel it's easy to sharpen the flat on a diamond stone and occasionally renew the curved bevel

Thanks Graham. I've been doing them like carving chisels. Have to be careful not to press too hard as they bend. I'll hone my technique so that I can hone my ytools.

Better get those Gallery sales up Pete, you know you need one.

<<<< piccy link.

That's a nice piece of kit Chas. I'm not expecting too much in the way of sales just yet as most things go in season down here though I am trying to pluck up the nerve to have a go at a couple of galleries that do have sites outside the county. Perhaps try to persuade them that wooden things can be 'art' as well. (Not an invitation for a debate on the subject  )

One technique that I read about that may help - start grinder and once it's up to full speed stop in again. Sharpen the gouge whilst the grinder is slowing down.
I've never tried it but it might work...
