I think there's a place for both. Some things I do on the CNC machone, some I prefer to do by hand. The journey and destination can be equally important.
 
I suppose that it depends? If you are doing it to earn or if you are doing it for pleasure and are retired as I am?

I am in the enviable position that if someone asks me if I can make so-and-so and I can say yeh or nay for how I please and I prefer to spend the time to do it by hand. After 1/2 a lifetime of hardware servicing on mainframe IBM kit by hand is for me :mrgreen:
 
That's witchcraft! it will get ya burned at the stake! 9-) I prefer handmade stuff but you must admit these machines are very clever.

I'm a hobbyist too. I quite like the planning and calculation that goes into the CNC made stuff; I also enjoy using a nice hand tool. To me it's a bit like enjoying woodwork and cooking...
