A comment was made on another thread recently that everyone talks the talk but there are very few projects on show in the showcase. I believe this is because most people are intimidated by the quality of the work shown by some of the professional/highly skilled members of this forum, which makes folk feel they are not worthy. I for one have resisted for this reason, and I sense some nodding heads reading this.

The thing is guys we all enjoy working with wood, and there is always going to be someone out there who has greater skills. If you've made something you're proud of, and have enjoyed making it, post it up there. I'm sure no one will criticise and it's a starting point to ask for advice on something you struggled with.

I've just posted 4 items, they take a while to be vetted by the mods so wont go on immediately.

I agree with Grayorm. However, as carpenter who likes to try his hand at the finer side of woodworking most of my projects end up looking like firewood. I've yet to make anything I'm really proud of. I'll happily post some pictures of my abject disasters if it lowers the standard enough for others to feel more comfortable posting their work.

:D :D :D Made me laugh.

I have been lowering the standard in the Projects/Tours/mistakes forum for a couple of months now. To be honest, I hadn't really noticed the project showcase and don't go there. I think the title itself is a bit intimidating, or at least to how I read it. It hadn't occurred to me to put my attempts in there.

I think you are right Grayorm, so I have just uploaded a picture of a settle that I made. Hope you like it, if it is OK I will submit pictures of other pieces I have made.

No need to only use the Project Showcase to show your er.. projects, a standalone post in a the relevant section is more than welcomed.
Today I have mostly been making ....

Im guessing it's something only seen on a browser ? Lately I only use tapatalk and cant remember ever seeing it :?

Without appearing facetious Nev, what's it for then?

Notice the word 'only' in the paragraph :) . I've made stuff in the past that I am well chuffed with for some reason or another but a future Chippendale it isn't (wasn't?)! So maybe not something I would put in a showcase but more than happy to share with fellow mortals for inspiration / idea sharing/ or just showing off because I managed to get a tool to do what it was supposed to do 8) e.g. the enterprise- good fun simple to do, out of the ordinary but hardly a museum piece

OK I've got the gist, but many of us mere mortals may not feel that 'anything' we create is worthy of 'showcasing'. Just seems a little under used is all.

Love the SS Enterprise by the way. Beam me up Scotty.......an oak beam of course!

what should go in there?

I built this last year from rough sawn waney cedar
and beech runners

but not sure it close to standard but i was proud and little man loves it

it is just not showcase quality

Good Lord guys! don't undersell yourselves. Nothing wrong with posting in the showcase section whatever your skill level. I have posted some stuff I wasn't too proud of myself but it is the best way to get feed back and help. Got to admit I hadn't posted in that section as I didn't realise it was there. I personally feel that if I post something with warts and all it helps me and shows that even us who wood work for a living can make mistakes and fuel for the wood burner.

I was going to disagree with you about it not being showcase standard Steve, I was going to say don't be silly it's great, neat joints, nicely fitting drawers, and then I saw the hiccup in the last pic. You're right it couldn't possibly be showcase standard with an MUFC crest on it :p
Nice job!

the crest wasn't my choice either
the headboard is my favorite bit

it is badly sprayed perspex which gives a sort of star \ uiniverse effect when back light is on
