In any hobby, one can often look to the 'professionals' for ideas, new ways of thinking or simply inspiration.

Across the globe there are some superb professional turners who produce some great stuff.

Is there a turner, a piece of whose work you'd really like? Do you have a piece of work that is in the 'piece of art' category?

To start this off, for me the 'love to have' turner would be Bin Pho but would need six lucky numbers before it happens alas.

I am fortunate enough to have a piece of Stuart Mortimer's work that I treasure and display at home.

So, over to you - desires & aquisitions?

It all depends on the definition of Professional.

For me there are many who's work that I admire some of which are just enthusiastic hobbyists so many to name. As for owning any pieces made by any of them well that is easy none but would like to.

I must confess that I have not really looked at Bin Pho work but have heard of him but will now take a look.

Mark Sanger, Tony and Di (from another forum) and Pete (Our very own bodrighy ) are just a few who's work I admire there are others but the list could go on

Perhaps take spirt rather than literal definition - I was thinking done for commercial gain rather than proficient home turner as I agree there is wonderful work done by many for they own and friends (incl e-friends) enjoyment.

I remember going to a woodturning international workshop in about 1992 and david elseworth was doing a workshop after he had finished making one of his small hollowed forms he was taking questions from the attendees and had about 12 on the table next to him including the one he had just finished
people were free to pick up and examine the items and they were excellent
someone asked if they could buy one and he replied "sure"
I can still remember the comments between the british attendees in private later as the price was £350 for a 2" high vessel in 1992 that had taken him 45 mins to make in a demonstration
other demonstrators were happy to sell their wares but prices tended to be £30-50
I bought an exquisite lidded bowl with a long slender finial on top that I treasure but cant for the life of me remember who it was made by ( a french man I think) even though its signed with a logo

I have a small collection of turned work by other makers including:

Plus some work by amateurs and I keep some of my own work that I don't wish to sell.
