UPDATE

Things have changed dramatically in the last day and I'll take the opportunity to outline what's happened now. What I will say is that I wished I had asked you all for lottery numbers.

Police

Firstly to clarify the role of the police in this as there seems to be some lack of clarity on that. The most significant event re this was what I what I am presuming other neighbours witnessed that involved the woman both running after a man with a large knife and also holding it to the same guy in the forecourt of the house as well. That was particulaly bad night and the police station is about 2 roads away, 600m, so not too far. I somehow slept through an other incident where 10 cars in the road were damaged by one of the guys in the house too, my car was fine but my neighbours suffered the usual sort of thing you'd expect from somebody drunkenly swinging at your car.

On all other times they have been called from what I or others must have percieved to be some very serious arguments that have lead to fighting or screaming in the house that goes on for hours. We all have fall outs but these seem to have more gravity than what you'd expect to normally see, if anything they haven't been called enough for reasons I'll expand on in a while.

Tuesday Night

As I said, 4 officiers were out after hours of disturbance and one of the guys being locked out and kicking in the door as a result. On wednesday on going to work I was greeted with a filthy sofa in the road and went in to the office. I got home to find a huge pile of junk outside the house and a number of people putting bin bags in cars. By some amazing stroke of luck they have moved out. I was out early evening but on getting back there was yet another argument as the landlady and some guys were getting them out.

I have since found out that the landlady has been trying to evict them for the past 6 months. They finally got a court order effective yesterday and hence they have moved on. The sickening thing as that they have been given a brand new 3 bed flat in a new devolopment further into town fully kitted up with white goods.

My partner spoke to the landlady this morning and the house is a mess. They moved in a year ago and in that time they have wrecked pretty much all that they could have. The carpets have been ripped up, the furniture has been smashed and damaged and they were first provided with the house newly fitted out from the landlady.

Points on this Thread

Though it's great for us that they have gone, this is not a problem that's being fixed, it's merely being moved on. They no doubt will wreck their new accomodation which is a great shame as we are paying for them to do that.

It's great to think they have gone, but I agree with those that say that you need to look at them to change. At the end of the day all of us here have a basic respect for our own and others property and people themselves. From what I overhead the fight on tuesday was as a result of one of the guys dropping a glass and the other guy thinking he was being "had a go at" as a result. It must be an awful situation to be in if in your own family, extended or otherwise that physical violence occurs for this. They have no gone on to smash up somewhere else and they think that's fine, in addition to that they have 2 kids that will no doubt not no anything different. (through no fault of their own)

In addition to this I spoke with a child protection unit who were pretty helpful. They said to do what you guys said and log what goes on. The lady also said they have had a number of calls from others on this and they even knew before I said about the police call out, as it turns out they get a log from them and have been for some time. She said they have to take and informed view from feedback from the police and others and that they already have met with family on this. She probably said more than she should have, but hopefully not detremental to anything.

Thanks for all your feedback and help, it's an excellent forum for wood and otherwise as you are all very helpful indeed.

Oh, and I need lottery numbers from you now given the luck on this one.

We could get just a few Holtey's and pass them around on a rotor system...? Or maybe it could be divided on the basis of number of posts?

WHOOHOO!!!!!

Cheers, Alf

G-ster,
Your and your neighbours not out of the woods yet.

New tenants may be just as bad.

I suggest that you have a chat with the landlady about her selection criteria and her duty to you as nice folks to do the right thing and select nice people for tenants.

regards
Alan

Very pleased that matters seem to be resolved. Can't imagine how bad and worrying it must have been.

Sawdust is right in his general assessment, and to my mind it just about sums up the way things are going in this country.

It makes me mad :x to think that those people are housed at our expense given their terrible behaviour and disregard for others.

We are too soft on this, and a whole range of issues.

Sorry to tell you this but as Dibs said. Any recorded complaints/problems with your neighbours must be disclosed when you come to sell your home and wiil effect it's value. Would you buy it knowing the real reason why the last owner moved?

Don't disclose and they find out later and you face paying financial compensation.

It's a real tough one.

True but if you don't put anything in writing to anyone (ie just keep shtum, no letters to the council etc) then who's to know that that was the reason why you moved?

Good news though re the neighbours from hell.

Quite true, I agree with you.

However what is this thread about, one could argue this is evidence of problem neighbours. It has been recorded and readily open for all public to view. The English law is strange and complex, this could be enough. Who knows?

I can't honestly answer that one.

One thing is for certain the Police will have records on the matter which will be enough and should you should really take legal advice on what should be disclosed if you do decide to sell.

The good thing for now is the the immediate problem appears to have been resolved.

All the best.

Result!

As others have suggested - I would have a chat with the landlady and leave her in no doubt that you hold her personally responsible for these recent events and her scumbag tenants. Hopefully the thousands of pounds of damage that the house has had - should wake up the landlady and stress the importance of tenant selection criteria.

She should at the very least tighten up her selection criteria.

Dear Lord - some mad woman running down the street with a knife, what's the world coming to! Would have been easier to have sneezed, missed the brake pedal, accidentally stepped on the gas pedal and somehow mounted the pavement. Whoops!

Hope the next set of tenants will be alot nicer!

Take it easy!

Dibs

Delighted that the situation has now been resolved. Hope that the next tenants prove to be reasonable people.

Cheers :D
