here is an interesting fact: China owns roughly $1.08 trillion worth of U.S. debt.

Americans are paying taxes that go to pay interest on the debt to China which then uses it to help fund the Red army

China hold about 3% of US dept but U.K. owns almost 7% of it. Thank you Uncle Sam for funding the U.K. military.

The difference between the appetite to accept scandal in the UK and US is intriguing.

It seems the “hush money” case is potentially (and hinted at probably by Sky News) going to be dismissed.

The grounds for this seems to boil down to Trump being POTUS - which implies the role makes him above the law.

It just wouldn’t happen in the UK which begs the question whether the US electorate simply does not trust their legal system to have got it right or is much more prone to accept/forgive transgressions.

What wouldn't happen here is the charges being brought at all.

Bit of a deviation, but sort of amusing and somewhat relevant, I think. It needs updating to include thought-saving words like 'woke' and the image quality is poor, but worth a quick gander.

I'd find everything John Cleese says these days, no matter how much off the deep end he's gone, still worth thinking about if he hadn't chosen GB News as his platform (presumably it chose him, really). That's a big credibility hit.

An image has come to light showing a recent gathering of the forum's left wingers. For information purposes only would you each care to identify yourselves?...thanks in advance ;)

Usual highbrow argument I see, no sign of a reply to anyone who has shot down any of your posts with some facts.
Just more puerile name calling.
Has Trumpie offered you a job yet?
Head of department for alternative facts perhaps.

Is that the famous left wing Southport riot? The bricks remind me of the funniest video. Facial hair doesn't look too LW to me. You in the middle perhaps?

Thinking about it, Trump tends to favour people who know nothing about their brief. So Tony probably disbarred from the alternative facts job.
He being such a staunch ally perhaps the great man could give him his own department.
I know I really shouldn't stoop to this sort of thing, but can I suggest maybe the department for understanding the national climate emergency.
An unlikely creation given Trump's views, but one where Tony would fit right in :)

So, Ealing's finest Sebastian Gorka has been selected by Trump as "assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism".

Qualifications for the role:
Arrested for trying to smuggle a weapon aboard a flight
Declared a security risk despite being part of last Trump gov
Anti Islam
Dubious personal and family links to Nazi inspired militia in Hungary
Declared academic credentials have been under suspicion for years
Married to a person that campaigned to have the Islam faith banned from the US (along with Al Jazeera TV) and ended funding to help combat racism
Very friendly with Mr Bannon (who was just out of prison last week)
Favourite retort to awkward questions from journalists - "take a long walk off a short pier"
Yesterday John Bolton called him a con man and needs to be investigated by the FBI
Etc, etc

Seems the perfect CV for the role.............

The Walmart CFO recently announced the largest U.S. retailer will plan on raising prices for consumer goods due to Donald Trump's economic plan

And yet Trump supporters on here were saying they were terrified by the thought of Kamala Harris

Just read the Wiki entry on him. It does look like he'll fit Trump's team perfectly. Dodgy, deluded, dangerous. Excellent appointment.

Scott Bessent
If it carries on like this I wonder if the markets will "do a Truss" on him come January when he actually gets behind the desk.
I doubt it. There was some nervousness that he would appoint someone who needed to take their shoes and socks off to count beyond ten but his Treasury appointment (Bessent) has been broadly welcomed.

This clearly illustrates the risk of selective bias. From his Wikipedia page = which could have been updated by just about anyone:
  • degree in philosophy and theology
  • joined the British Territorial Army serving in the 22 Intelligence Company
  • master's degree in international relations and diplomacy at the Budapest University of Economic Sciences and Public Administration
  • political science doctoral program at Corvinus University obtaining his Ph.D.
  • faculty of the new US initiative for the Program for Terrorism and Security Studies (PTSS),
  • White House announced that Trump would appoint Gorka as a member of the 14-member National Security Education Board.
  • hired as administrative dean at the National Defense University, Fort McNair
  • editor for national security affairs for Breitbart News
  • appointed Deputy Assistant to the President and Strategist in the Trump White House
  • blah blah
Clearly an individual with outstanding credentials:)

In truth I doubt his suitability - stems as much from my distrust of Trump as a balanced view of Gorka.

Perhaps it's more fun to ridicule and we should all be less serious minded and emotional over comments which are clearly the product of a selection bias rather than balanced.

I'd say your summary of the Wiki article is itself a product of selection bias, Terry. It wouldn't be tricky to put together a series of bullet points that portray him in a very different light, and which undermines, for example, his 'academic' achievements. Among many other serious dodgeinesses. We're talking about a person who will have considerable power at government level - the negatives completely outweigh any positives.

Nothing selective or biased about it Terry, my points were from what I know about him, (listening to him, reading about him etc) since he came to popular attention in 2016 or so. He is what he is.
I suggest you look around a bit more, do some research beneath your bullet points. You may be a fan of the man or admire his views, which is fine.
