Hi

I have rescued some rounds of Apple from the woodpile where the middle of the tree had rotted. Thought that they would make nice holders for growing herbs etc.

What is the best way to preserve them for keeping outdoors? They are nicely dried out and the plants in the middle will stay in pots. Creosote seems extreme and stuff for treating nice wood the other end of extreme.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Id think about an Endseal product for decking. Something like this: http://www.diy.com/departments/ronseal- ... 14200311:s
Pour a bit into a bucket and sit the wood in it. The drier the wood the more effective it will be when you treat it. You can stain it after to bring up the colour if you want to.

edit/;(you can buy smaller pots than that btw)
