Big and chunky. Steph my missus, father has recently returned from touring Norway in his camper for two months. Luckly for me squirreled away in one of his compartments were these holiday souvenirs he picked up from the side of the road
so the tall log on the right had a bit taken of and lobbed on the lathe with all the intentions of trying for a natural edge bowl but the shape proved more intresting so just went for it
for a change I'm using a product call bondex which is a water based saturateur to protect all wood types interior and exterior. After I've let it for for 24 hours I'll coat it with 3 coats of water based marine varnish. My hope is that it will make bark pop out a bit more.

I must admit, I do like the idea of turning waney edged bowls, they look incredible
The big turkey
well it looks like one thats been over cooked and just pulled from the oven. One large cherry burl, given to me from a guy I convinced to give his second house to his son so he would know longer pay extra tax and his son would no longer struggle to save up for a mortgage. A few weeks back he turned up and dumped this on my drive after he learned that I was woodturning. It came from a large cherry tree that he had cut down due to issues with his nieghbours. So today as my chuck has finally wrapped its hand in its processing wood I've got ready for turning.

a loving rub down and cleaned the cracks and crevices during which
one of the drumsticks fell off. Then as the day was drawing to a close a quick coat of protection
before re-stowing it back under the garden table.
Three more pens. Norfolk Southern Pine, fir cone and Alder seeds.

Some progress on the final retirement gift of this academic year, turned a plant pot from some Olive Ash then glued the components I had together with 5 minute epoxy, decided to do a stamen from a piece of Mahogany and glued that in, then took a piece of Hawthorn and roughed out 2 leaf shapes, now I need to refine the shapes and make them more leafy. From top down the plant and pot are made of-

Holly
Spalted Birch
Western Red Cedar
Oak stem
Olive Ash pot
Hawthorn leaves
Mahogany
Oak

Will stick this here seeing as it's part of the project I posted yesterday, I did use the lathe though, I used a carbide burr in my Jacobs chuck to remove material, would have used my dremel but I can't get to it at the minute, still a lot of sanding to do but I'm pretty happy with it even though it took nearly 4 hours to get this far
Coming along handsomely eagerly awaiting the finished result
First dining chair made in the same style as the Windsor chair I made. Not 100% happy with it. Should have it sorted by the time I have done the other 5 chairs the wife wants.

So here is the finished piece and I'm really happy with it, so much so I want to keep it 
Finished the 2nd leaf today, drilled a 6mm hole either side of the stem and wedged the leaves in then mixed up some 5minute epoxy and flooded the top of the pot and poured in some potting mix that has been baked dry, I will tip the excess out later once the epoxy has cured. The flower and leaves are finished with Danish oil to retain some of the wood texture and to have a matte finish, the pot has a hard wax to contrast with the oil.

Hello peeps, made this awhile ago but forgot to post.
Thought I'd do a snack bowl for the football euros final...
Never done a twice turned bowl (this was originally a chunk of a tree I picked up from some guy by the side of the road who was chopping up a tree for fire wood that fell down a few years ago) plus never played with copper wire inlay Before either. Happy with the result of the turning, obvious not so happy with the football result... this has now been christened the snack bowl of disappointment

I'm still very much a novice, but here's some pics from today.
I started off making a bathroom light pull from a bit of Oak that I had laying around, I wasn't happy with the finished shape so I pulled a bit of Plum from the firewood pile to make another. My eldest son has just moved into his own home and I thought he'd appreciate having a light pull.
I was given a small spalted Sycamore blank a few months ago and today I turned it into a Salt Pinch bowl, I made the top from a bit of Oak board cut-off.
I confess to having taken the easier option of using the tenon as the foot, there are some small compression marks left behind from the chuck.

Thanks. IIRC it was Hampshire Sheen High Gloss finish.
Been waiting for new chucks to arrive for my lathe so during that time have been renovating the doors to the work shop took longer than anticipated but they are done now so have been trying out the new chucks and went with an apple crotch piece. I think any sane turner wood have passed it by or thrown it, so cracked at the branch ends and very unstable at the beginning. Well anyways glad I stuck with it for the last two days and this is the end result.
