It's annoying isn't it! Such a long winded way to make fire wood. But I insist on making it this way at least a couple of times a year.

I think I'll try to use the sides for angel wings when I get around to doing one.

well took the other side of the plate of and made the wings used another piece of oak for the body not sure of the wood for the halo possibly beech and took inspiration from BB woodturning based in co Kerry you tube vidio fir the design of the angel. Still not finished got to touch up around the areas where the wings have been inserted and put a finishing coat on. Happy bunny now.

A display stand made from a spalted sycamore log I've had sat at the back of the makerspace, not 100% finished but the turning is done, made because I need height for my display in the shop opening on Saturday, the plan initially is to hang tree ornaments from it, I can fit 2 lots of 12 around it I think, one on the top ring and one below it, the 2 steps at the base are for small things like bud vases or similar, I only have tomorrow to get it ready so thinking of using 4 inch nails epoxied in 1inch deep that should allow me to hang 48 ornaments at a time

interesting project will you predrill the holes for the nails?

Absolutely, no way I could drive them in straight or without the wood splitting and falling apart, I'll cut some ridges in the nail, drill the holes and use some 5 minute epoxy, although with current temps in the makerspace it's more like 5 hour epoxy, shouldn't need much, the drill bit is barely 0.5mm bigger than the nails

I think the design and execution of the salted sycamore stand is beautiful and wouldn't look good with nails.
I would reconsider using nails.

As I said, I don't have time for another option, I knew it wouldn't look great but I need it done today ready to take to the shop tomorrow, luckily I found a drill bit that left the hole a tight fit for the nail so haven't glued them in so I can remove them later if I want to. Doesn't look so bad once it's loaded though. Now to sort out the contracts and insurance, price tags and info cards for some of the bigger items

The nails don't help the quality image. I recognise you have no time to purchase anything else. Got any christmas wrapping paper or similar, preferably red? Cut it into thin strips, dab some pva on one end and wind it round the nails - OR, as they pull out easily, get hold of a few stripey drinking straws, cut to length and push them over OR if you have some unwanted bright coloured knitting wool wrap that round.

100% @Richard_C Now to see if SWMBO has any drinking straws hidden away in the kitchen
