It’s on there when I’m cutting veneer, lining and finishing boxes. Alongside doing boxes I’m also making a cot at the moment so I just slip a piece of hardboard under it so it can be easily lifted with any box stuff to clear the bench quickly for a bit of joinery!Question if I may @Blackswanwood, is that cutting mat you have in your pics a semi-permanent fixture on your workbench, remove when necessary?
Hadn't thought of that! I think I see a purchase in the near future, what size would you recommend, 4'x3'?It’s on there when I’m cutting veneer, lining and finishing boxes. I’d go for the biggest one that fits on your bench … they seem to be sold in paper sizes and mine is A1.Hadn't thought of that! I think I see a purchase in the near future, what size would you recommend, 4'x3'?

My workbench(es) are more assembly tables (2x 1200x900 bolted together lengthways) than traditional benches, the tops are sheets of 25mm Egger non slip chipboard flooring, edged all round with timber. Pretty much everything I make is functional stuff rather than something like the lovely boxes that @Blackswanwood makes. As such the Egger tops can be a little unforgiving, which is why a cutting mat might be a halfway house toward something that is a tad kinder to the project being worked on. Grip mats are ok, I have a few, but don't really work as a secondary/removable worktop. I might experiment with just a sheet of hardboard or 6mm MDF, and if that doesn't pan out move up to a cutting mat.
That's it. I quitAnother one from the offcuts pile ... Cherry and Yew with an experimental Sycamore inlay ...
