Spent first day in the workshop for over a week so I have been drilling some square holes in some wood tomorrow I will glue some of them together to form a mortice

So I'm still working my way through the heap of Ash I got a couple of weeks ago, I've managed to split the bigger pieces into more manageable lumps and now I'm working through rounding off and creating blanks ranging from 6 to 9 inch diameter in varying lengths, some of them I might recount and divide into 2 or 3.
Took these couple days ago, the pile waiting to be rounded off has tripled now.

if I'm not at the lathe I will either be watching YouTube turners or I'll be thinking about turning and planning my next creations 
first and last thoughts of every day.
Reminds me of Miller's Dale wood store in Derbyshire sadly no more and I bet it smells the same

It smells amazing in there at the minute
probably not a good thing though in such a small space 
Working on lacquer finish on a couple of guitars I am building. I’d had a couple of days in the mid sixties and got about nine coats sprayed, waiting for the weekend when it’ll be warm again. Both are Martin 00 pattern. Front is Dalbergia Nigra, rear is local Clark Walnut. The necks are drying separately.

Best man's lovely wife just produced their third so a mobile/hanging thing (to follow the two previous) was required.
I cheated this time and edge detected on CAD from some interweb pictures and then lazer etched onto prepared timber. I have traced with carbon paper in the past but I was slightly short of time. Onto the scroll saw which is an old axminster model which is most capable but also terrifying if the blade breaks (foot-powered kill-switch installed after previous project).

Small pearlescent bead for the angler fish and lots and lots of tie-ing
Embroidery ring for the top, jewlery pins through everything so it moves nicely (automatic looping pliers are amazing!)
The wire is all brass and (if anyone else is mad enough to try such a thing)- 90degree downturn on all the cross bars so they can be bent out a little (or a lot) to fine-tune the balance of things when strung.
Small #2 assisted with stringing/ hanging and we are now both very good at (appropriately) the fisherman's knot although I still can't predict where the final knot will end -up (and I'm not entirely enamoured with the free-ends) never mind.

The last thing I made . Fresh from the workshop just finished it's in a dry fit state it needs sanding and painting Matt black
Managed to fit a 1200 X 800 shower with sliding door a 600x 460 sink a square w/c and floor to ceiling set of cupboards also a 1200 x500 ladder radiator in an area 2.4 X 1.7 ,
The cupboards are 2 X 600 X 720 and 1 X 600 X 900 kitchen wall units cut dow to 200 deep with push to open catches . Due to the lack of head for the shower feed I had to fit a duel pump but it works fantastic , It's all a new learning curve living in a bungalow always had old Victorian four story semis

Been playing with fire, but didn't burn a digit...fortunately! I don't know what the wood is but it's not pine. If anyone knows please advise as I'm keen to identify it.
Shou Sugi Ban or Yakisugi? Seems some different opinions on the name. But Sugi is the name of the Japanese cedar I think that is traditionally used.
Finished with shellac on the outside and friction polish inside but didn't get the shine I was hoping on.

Took a break from rounding, sealing and stacking green ash today and made a couple of crotch vases one from Oak and one from Sycamore. Found a lot of bug larvae in the oak so probably gonna use the rest as firewood before the little buggers get into everything else.
Are they for keeping your nuts in
