jim I'm selling the full kreg kit if you are interested, It's the boxed set that has the workbench jig, and also the two smaller ones, plus the drill but and a bunch of screws etc..

I've made quite a lot of things with it and it's very simple to use. Kreg give all the settings for various thicknesses of stock. I built an entire tool cabinet just using this and it was remarkably quick.

I can't see how easy (or indeed if at all possible) to cater for wood of different thicknesses on the Axminster version unlike the Kreg.

I've got the Kreg master system and although I don't use all the bells and whistles, it really does work very well.

I have had the Trend version for some time, but recently bought the Kreg system in a fit of madness. Isn't it amazing how what initially appears to be mad turns out to be inspired sometimes. The Kreg is just so much easier to use, more flexible and, despite being largely plastic, better built.

Another Kreg user here, have recently used it for face frames on site for a big built in kitchen.
Only problem with it sometimes is if you use it too near to the end of the piece at right angles too it. it can cause splits along the grain

I think Axminster have two models, one which I have, is adjustable for different thickness stock. I haven't tried the Kreg so cannot compare, but the Axminster is easy to use and works fine.

No idea what it'll be like, but on Thursday 11th October, one of Lidl's promotions is a pocket hole jig (complete with drill bit and long screwdriver bit) for £8.99. It's not on their website yet. I had one of their flyers through the door over the weekend.

Cheers,
Sam

I use the Kreg system everyday and I think its versatility is extraordinary. Well worth the extra expense IMO.

Cheers

I have the Kreg 2000 system, works like it should, I use it all the time, I'd buy it, whatever the newer version is again in a heartbeat. :D

I have the small two hole Kreg, and bought the Rutlands kit when it was half price.

Both are good.

Used the Kreg to fit all the spindles in a rather large staircase with great success!

I'd like to know where you can get the longer (2" plus) screws that Kreg supply, but have only seen them in selection boxes.

Did you not have holes visible on the spindles afterwards?

2 1/2" screws can be had from Brimarc http://www.brimarc.com/home.php3?page=products&pc=C_132_18_3

I bought this kit over a year ago at a woodworking show and it's been very good. More versitle than the fixed right angle models as you can use it even when a piece of funiture has been assembled. The jig is just the right size as I find the 3 hole model too big and you even get a selection of screws. The only down side was having to buy the clamp which was £10 extra.

The prepared plugs took care of the holes, and as it was a painted finish there was no problem, and a pretty solid job.

Thanks for the link to the longer screws!

Dave.

Went round by Lidl in Falkirk last night and bought one of these kits.
Excellent tool, with full instructions and marked scales for wood thicknesses, where to set the drill collar etc.

The screwdriver bit is a PZ2 though, and the whole kit is in a VHS video case!

Excellent value when you see the drill bits alone for sale at £14!!

They also had 1m spirit levels for £2.99 - worth that as a straight-edge!

A good idea, at the moment, I have all the bits for my pocket rocket in the dust collector bag that came with my circular saw. A VHS case will be much better.
