Please can you help?

My brother is a traditional carpenter and particularly likes planes. He bought a Stanley 92 Cabinet Makers Rebate/Shoulder plane recently, but he tightened the screw too much and snapped the 2" long thin pointed piece of metal which holds the blade in place.

He has phoned Stanley and loads of other people but cannot get this replacement part anywhere.

Have you any idea's please? I would love to get it for him.

Thank you

Have you tried Bristol Design (telephone 0117 929 1740)? They have all sorts of bits and pieces.

Also, in a recent thread someone managed to track down some spare parts for a Stanley rebate plane (for very little money) on the US Stanley site (www.stanleytools.com). He said that he'd had no luck with Stanley outlets in the UK. Might be worth a try if you haven't already...

Might be worth giving Pennyfarthing Tools a ring http://www.pennyfarthingtools.co.uk/new-woodwork.htm

They sell secondhand tools and often have lots of plane parts. They might even have a complete Stanley #92 second-hand (you will see on the page at the link that they have a #93 which is similar but a different size). I've always found them very helpful.

Cheers

Adele,

If you want, I have a Stanley No. 90 you can have. Free to a good home. It has interchangeable parts with the No. 92. This would give your brother the part you're looking for, plus a bullnose front end.

If interested, PM me at this site.

Thank you for your very kind offer. This is really appreciated.

My email address is email address removed, as requested by Adele Please will you send me your details and how much the cost of postage will be and I will send you a cheque to cover this at least.

My brother will be absolutely delighted. He really has a passion for planes and was gutted when he broke this one. He had only just bought it.

Thank you too to Joe and Paul for your suggestions.

Kindest Regards

This part is still available from Stanley. I will say that Stanley has "revised" their website and the service part catalog. What was once a straight forward effort to locate what you need and order has become a exercise in futility.

Anyhow for the cap iron for a Stanley 90 bull nose plane (which is the same as your plane), the part number is 12-090-3 and the cost is $2.05.

Good luck!
