This specimen has come up the garden, its currently about 5' tall, nice leaf structure, but no real signs of flowers, probably came from commercial bird seed. It’s a nice-looking plant, but I should i.d. it.

Thanks........Gareth.

Is that a rose bush centre left ?
Ambrosia may well strangle it in the dark of night
Underground tubers can be difficult to eliminate
That plant should be eliminated !

Roundup ASAP !!! These invasive plants are a real problem just look at Himalayan Balsam it is causing untold problems particularly around river systems but has now spread into the countryside— it needs a huge national eradication program but it will take several generations of us to eradicate it ! Similar problem with grey squirrels!

No there's too much hysteria about these things. Non of these weeds are a problem in a small garden and are easily dealt with, even without Roundup. The fact is, all plants are "invasive" but some are better at it than others, if they happen on the right niche. - very often disturbed ground. See "Ruderal species"

Someone's never had Japanese knotweed in their garden, or seen anyone hospitalised by giant hogweed.
