Hi - I am looking to purchase a planer. It does not have to be a large machine as most of the jobs will be small cross section. Is there one planer which stands out above others in terms of quality?

John

personally i like the multico 6" - but the dont make that anymore so its ebay or second hand dealers only

I have gone off my Sheppach. Don't get me wrong the results are more than acceptable, but the machine is annoying at times;

1. The fence has to be removed to switch to thicknessing mode which is tiresome as there is never any where to put it.

2. The dust collection shute is in two parts which have to be taken apart when changing mode.

3. The base is pants and I have now made my own.

These are small issues but other machines seem to avoid these bugbears. In particular the well liked, in these here parts, Jet machine.

Cheers, Tony.

A wadkin 3 phase planer went on ebay yesterday for £40 ! it needed some work but would have been worth it - annoying that i sniped it at £35 but someone else had the same idea just 5 notes higher

Segwick (see other thread just below yours) and Jet 310/260 seem to have good reviews on here.

I think the jets are very popular, the 260 is more than large enough for a small cross section of work. Also very quick change between modes.

I should of mentioned that I needed a bench planer / thicknesser ], any futher suggestions ?
