Hi all,

I am looking at spending around the £200 mark on a planer, primarily to finish my kitchen off, which my old joinery company partly manufactured for me. So i basically need a surface planer to shoot the doors in. But i am thinking i would also like the combi so i can use it in the future.
I have had a look at what is on the market and have found that my choices are one of the cheap 6" little planers or to get a 10" second hand one from Ebay. Im watching a couple which i will put the links below, but was wondering if anyone has any thoughts or advice about these planers and which i should get. Is buying a 25 year old planer advisable?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks

Pete.

Hi Pete

25 years ago the scheppach was a serious piece of kit, built like a tank and hewn from a solid billet, (well ...).
all the parts for it are still available and while they are not cheap they will probably last just as long as the original,
The only problem Iv had with mine is that setting the outfeed table can be a PITA, bit hit and miss, but once set runs like a dream

Cant comment on the Dewalt i'm afraid

Thanks for the info Recky33, very helpful.

Anyone got or had experience of the Dewalt models? Seems to be quite a lot of the DW50's and DW1150's going on Ebay.

Thanks

Pete.

I have the same sheppach and it gives a great finish actually its one of the best for finish of the older machines.I have really worked it hard for over 12 years and it was secondhand then.Mine has the very usefull blade sharpening attachment which seems to be quite rare.

Getting quite excited about the Scheppach now! Hope the bidding doesn't go over my budget!! :) Anyone know how much they go for, i haven't seen another one of that age on Ebay yet?

Thanks

Pete.

They seem to sell between £100 to £350 ,that one looks smart compared to mine,If you are serious i would contact the seller before and find out how hard its been worked etc.
