Hello all,
I'd appreciate your recommendations on a portable planer please. At the moment I have a Bosch gho26-82. I've only used it once and found it very good but the only problem is it is 240v. I need to get now get a 110v planer, so the Bosch is surplus to requirement (I have it advertised in the general woodworking forum if anyone is interested, I'm open to offers).
I'm considering going for a change and my 2 choices are either the Makita 1923h or the Dewalt d26500k but I can't decide :?
I've never used a dewalt planer. I used an Elu planer during my apprenticeship in the mid 90's. Can't remember the model number, just it had a max cut of 3.5mm and it was very good, although a tad heavy.
On the other hand, I used a few Makita planers and have aslo been impressed , but never the 1923h. My dad is a joiner also and all the tools he has ever used have been Makita and he swears by them. This influence has played a bit part in my joinery career as 90% of the tools I have bought have been Makita. But strangely enough, I've never owned a Makita planer. The main reason that put me off was they are predomiantly designed for right handed people, whereas I am one of those 'lefties' but to be honest I'm not bothered about getting caked in shavings now (and could always use the dust bag if I'm feeling like keeping myself 'shaving free' ).
I think I'm leaning towards the Makita, as I've found all the stuff I've bought to be pretty much bullet proof and have it found for a very decent price of £112 compared to the £145 of the Dewalt. But any opinions, reviews would be appreciated.
Thanks
(sorry for the long post, I've had a few beers  )
