Had a quiet summer in the workshop - got some other jobs done etc - but this was a 'commission' from someone who let us stay with them in their holiday home
So she wanted a jewellery box similar to some of the previous boxes I made except it had to be in a light wood (I offered holly or sycamore and we agreed on sycamore). Then her family 'motto' is a pineapple so she wanted a pineapple inlay on top. Then she did not want anymore fancy inlaying but did want the 3 layers defined so I suggested a very thin walnut rebate below each level.
Finally I thought it would look better tapered rather than spuare so it sort of looks a bit like a pineapple too
Photos below - thanks for looking EDITED TO PUT IMAGES IN

These photos were uploaded to a new version of flickr - anyone any idea why they do not load?

OK a bit later had another look and I can make it a URL and then you have to click the hyperlink to get to the photo - but I cannot insert the photos directly any more..... that's irritating

Nice piece. I bet that inlay took a while.

I have to admit that until I looked at the photos I assumed that the censor had gone berserk again and replaced some random word with pineapple :D

Thank you wobbly cogs - in fact as I have done more inlays I find there are always shortcuts - so this was easier than it looks. I took a piece of lemonheart and used the little Bosch router with a 1.5mm router cutter to cut 4 parallel lines 1 cm apart. Then I cut some yew strips on a Proxxon table saw and used a card scraper to get them down to 1.5 mm and inlaid them. Then I did the same ay 90 degrees to the first 4 to get the lattivework effect
Then cut out an oval and inlaid that in the sycamore top - then added the leaves which are zebrano
Thanks for looking

Exquisite work, as always, Mark. :)

Yes, Flickr seem to have changed things around recently - you know have to right-click an image, select a size, wait for the page to reload and then right-click it to get your Image URL. Then, go back and repeat for each photo! :x :p

It's very frustrating and I can't see why they've done this. I can't imagine many other Flickr users are very happy with these changes so, I hope they'll revert back to the old setup, some time soon...

Still, you don't get any of the adverts or other s***e associated with most of the other FREE photo-hosting sites.
