Hi

I just bought my first pillar drill ITS a Fox F11 911 , it has a 16mm key less engineering chuck which I am finding out can be a right pain to fit a drill and tighten up at the same time, its a three handed job, Do you know of any quick change adapter I could add to the chuck and the appropriate drill bist for general wood drilling.

Don't know your model but if you try using it on a slowish speed (which is what you normally need for woodwork) you might find there is enough resistance to stop the shaft rotating too much while you turn the chuck outer to drip the drill bit. then you can let go of the drill and tighten it properly.

May also have thick oil inside the keyless chuck so some WD40 might make it operate so easily it does not turn the shaft.

I looked at a similar fox model online and it appears to use a MT2 taper shank for the chuck.
I you can't get on with a keyless, then you can get a proper keyed chuck and swap it.

Both types of chuck can be got online - ebay RGD tools amongst others or directly from ARC EuroTrading.

Fast speed for Woodwork - Slow speed for metalwork :D

Like most people I don't bother changing the speed very often so I think I'll keep it slow for drilling 35mm holes with a forstner bit :)

Agreed that does mean spade bits cut a bit slow but I can live with that.
