I have not done much due to looking after my disabled parents. Had a day in the shed. Had a go at something away from the normal goblets Boxes i always turn out.

I think the wood is Spalted Larch, not too sure. I remember it was on the fire wood pile 18 months ago till my eagle eye spotted it. :D

Where are you gyus all getting your inspiration from? Suddenly that standards seem to have rocketed. Very ompresive work Dermot.

I coloured the leaves with the Chestnut wood dye. When i filled in the colour i felt it was to solid a green, so i lightly sanded it back to let a bit of the grain show. It is my first try, i will have another go and see if i can improve. :)

Dermot

HI and thanks for posting this

Please dont think I am rocking the boat but my comments are as follows

Love the design of the piece

But I think there is too much going on :?

The blank has great color and figure , so why cover it up and cut it away

If you had used a plainer blank without the figure and color ?

Also , the holes in the leafs ? would it have been better to cut some fine lines just to let a hint of light through ? I think the holes are to big ?

Is it alright if I borrow your idea , when I get my workshop up and running again

Just my thoughts on you super idea :p

Sweet Dermot !!!

Love the platter as a whole. I think the leaves are fab, as is the centre detail.

Blister thanks for your comments. I tend to agree with you it has turn out "too busy". I do think it would be better on a plain blank :)

Feel free to do one like it, after all everyone gets their ideas from looking at someone else work. It's what everyone does.

Thanks to everyone for your comments.

Stunning,Super,Brilliant,Love it, If I were at a craft fare and saw it I would not hesitate to buy. Great piece of design and workmanship.

That's a great piece Dermot, from scrap heap to Gallery with a fair amount of inspiration in between.

Dermot I keep comming back to look at this :D ,one thing I would like to know is from the picture the piece looks flat like a plaque, is this the case or does it have a curve to it?
