iPhone.

I've had one since they came out and am now so utterly wedded to the apple ecosystem that I couldn't easily change. Not that I'd want to. Ever.

I can see from your Avi that you've been assimilated. Thanks for the input. What model? It has to be small.

I went from a Blackberry to an iPhone, discovered internet Sudoko, and life's never been the same since!

2 empty tin cans an a length of string

Sorry no can do! all cans have got to be recycled and melted down to make crap car spares and what sort of string length are you thinking of? do you know how many hours it takes to produce string? and also there's a chance a swan may swallow it!

I got a Smart Phone but didn't realise you needed to be a Smart person to use the sodding thing  my wife recommended something called a "Doro" would be more suitable for myself.

Cheers

I recently went SIM only after years of upgrading to the latest ,best phone every upgrade. Anyway I went SIM only and bought a cheap moto e from Tesco. I've already got fed up with the slowness and lack of memory. So last Friday decided to get better phone. Vodafone had a deal on a pay as you go Huawei p8 lite for £99.

Had it a few days now and so far I'm very impressed. It's almost as good as my old HTC one m7.

I just downgraded or rather improved my cost/function ratio by going to a Moto G with a SIM only deal. Sold my iPhone 5s and still had monbey left over. Apple is just an unimaginative rip off.

+1 for the moto g, I would however get a 1st gen due to the size, I got the 3rd gen now as well, and I prefer the 1st gen only due to size.
can pick them up for less than £50 now and they will do whatever you need a smartphone to do.

Another iPhone/Apple eco system vote here. Has made my life much easier. One nice surprise is how good the camera is (using the iPhone 6). I've used it for all my pics posted on here, and also use it for semi-professional work in museums, where the images may be published. The DSLR stays at home now. Of course it is much more versatile, but for general scenes down to close-ups, the iPhone is fine. The Olloclip add-on lenses are good too. It took me a while to realise, but the iPhone saves me a load of kneeling and bending in the workshop (and similar), too. Yesterday I was checking some antique furniture in a salesroom and wanted to see the details of how the bracket feet were made, to guide a restoration I am doing. Rather than lying inelegantly on the floor and squatting in the dark, I just poked the phone inside and took a flash pic. Likewise with an inaccessible motor plate that I just wanted to read.

I don't have comparisons with other smartphone makes as I have never used them. But don't underestimate the convenience of having all your photos appear automatically on all your Mac devices.

Thanks for all the input guys. They ALL rule themselves out on size. They're all the size of a dinner plate, how are you supposed to get them in your pocket? Looks like it's BB again. Nothing wrong with it except screen size when on the internet. The BB has a fixed keypad which takes up a third of the phone. I was hoping for something the size of the BB but with an on screen keypad.

Look at going sim only for about £10 month. An LG g4 is a good phone as is the cheaper g3 or theblite version of the g4. See ebuyer

Graham - Whats the current model of BlackBerry that you're using? What's your budget. If I know the size and budget, I can give you some options.

However more generally I went sim-only recently and bought a 'cheap' Android phone. Saved a bundle and it does everything I need.

My current is the Q10. It looks exactly the same as their new offering the 'classic'.Budget isn't really an issue without being silly. I need good internet, reasonable camera, decent memory for lots of contacts and a reminder gizmo, which I imagine they all have. The criteria that seems to have jumped to the top of the list is that I can put it in my jeans front pocket and still work.

Might it be worth pointing out that pretty much any touchscreen phone will 'feel' bigger than a classic Blackberry, just because it's all screen, and you're just not used to it? Also, if you dig into the specs you'll see that e.g. the current iPhone 6s is only slightly taller (1/4" or so) than a Blackberry Classic, but is also narrower, thinner and lighter.

Cheers, Pete

I've checked the sizes on pretty much all of them Peter. They quote 4 1/2 inches but that is the screen size with the peripheral border it often comes to nearly 6" in length. My current BB and the classic are both only 4 7/8 (120mm) tip to tip.

EDIT I tell a lie, even the new BB is half an inch bigger than my old one.

Something 6" in length would undoubtedly get bent and break the first week. Adding a case would compound the problem.
