Has anyone bought any of these tools from Axminster??

I thought that as they were so cheap I could regrind into "specials"

Seems a cheap source of HSS or are they toffee like ??

I have had a set from day one and they are still going strong, not the most elegant but the steel is fine, in fact my set is tempered harder than some I have from a well known brand.

I agree with Chas. I got a set free with my CCBL lathe and have been using them for about 2 years, no problems at all.

I have a set as well.
Can I make posh handles for them and if so what wood to use plus can I use the old feral or is there a supplier that I can get new ones?
Anyone done this, how much better will they be if I make the handles longer?

No reason why you can't, but for what purpose, is it just so they look good on the rack or because you think they will perform better?

Try Ash or Beech or if you really want to join the 'Posh Set' try Rose Wood

Assuming you can remove it off the old handle without wrecking it. Replacements are available from such as Ashley Isles, I just make my own from copper or brass tubing.

That is totaly down to your personal preference, how you hold the tools and if the existing form give you any particular problems in use.

Thanks for all them answers Chas.
I am on the look out for rose wood now, I think I may be a bit of a snob and don't know it.
I have always wonted longer handles so I will give one a go, just got to get round the wife to visit Yandles.
How about gold plaited ferrules.
