I want to make myself a pen with the lovely Massur Birch Neil sent me. TR have a good selection but they are a little on the expensive side. I was wondering if this would be any good:

Are these kits generally quality? I take it a standard set of 7mm bushings is needed?

The streamline is an excellent kit and the one that you show is very good quality. The gold version doesnt look as good however.
Vince is a very nice guy to deal with as well.
The streamline kit does use regular 7mm bushes at each end but a wider one for the centre. Vince should be able to sell you the correct set.
The tubes are also slightly longer than slimline tubes, couple of mm, but slimline can still be used.
Heres the kit made up:

Hi Wizer,

I'd thoroughly recommend Vince, he's a top bloke. I've bought several times from him without a hitch. There's a fair chance that the pens I posted pictures of came from him.... although I can't actually remember.

Happy turning,

Neil.

wizer, chrome is a good quality plating no matter what kit its on, if you want a good quality gold then it must be titanium gold. 10k,24k or upgrade gold is crap,so the very few of them i have left goes to the grandkids. now here is a bit of info for anyone intending selling their pens,
if you use titanium, rhodium, or chrome fittings then the plating will last at least 5 years without it discolouring. so you can afford to charge a decent price.

A lot of my kits have come from Vince - a great supplier to do business with.

Cheers Greggy. I don't think i'd ever want brass or gold anyway.

Vince emailed me earlier and my kit has been posted ;)

What is a "decent price" for a pen? The wood is obviously the least of the expenses so unlike bowls I'm not expecting pens to be "covering the costs of the wood" so much as the time it takes to produce one....?

Thanks

Miles
