Can anyone help?

I cant view web pages, internet explorer says cannot display the web page, when I click on the diagnose button it says,

"windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP. This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer.

Ceck firewall settings for HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21)"

Does any one know what this means, the problem started when I uninstalled Norton and the went to install AVG, AVG would not install as it said I had no internet connection. The only firewall that is on there at the moment is the windows one.

I can send/recieve emails and use the Itunes store so I obviously have an connection.

Im using win XP

Thanks

Andy

Have you tried rebooting in Safe Mode?

Have you made any changes that could have caused this?

Mick

yes, Norton was unistalled, and I have heard this can be a very difficult virus program to uninstall on some computers.

Hello Andy

Have you tried temporarily turning off the firewall? That should tell you if it's a firewall setting causing the problem.

As far as the Norton uninstall goes, it can be reluctant to delete completely. Have a look at the Symantec site help or stick 'uninstalling norton' into Google.

Cheers

Yeah I tried in safe mode, I tried turning firewall off but still nothing. I downloaded something from the symantec website which I used to uninstall norton.

Which version of windows are you using?
Which version of Norton?

Makes a difference!

If you uninstalled norton using the correct procedure, preferably the latest removal application, it is unlikely to have caused the problem you describe IMO.

If the norton uninstall was recent, try a system restore from "tools folder" back to the date before you uninstalled and try again. First download a latest removal tool from Symantec website.

If not then do you have the original Norton disk as if norton did cause the problem rather than trying to install the other progs afterwards, reinstalling will often repair it after which you can start again.

I use Norton 360 on 4 seperate computers at home running XP and Vista and it can be a bugger to uninstall but perfectly straightforward if you know what you are doing.
