Putting up a steel shed and have patio slabs, with some sharp sand and cement. Sub base is mot. Question is, is it easier to get things level with dry mix of sharps sand abs cement, or should I mix up some mortar?

-I would set up a timber either side at the level I want my sand/cement mix
-Pour the dry mix into the shutter and spread it out (if as you say there is a good sub-base then 50mm is plenty) walk around on it/stamp it down to compact it and leave it higher than your timber edging
- use the straightest timber you can find across the top of your edging and pull the sand/cement mix across to get it level
-lay your slabs on top.

Hope that makes sense, I'm the greatest at explaining but I've done several small patios this way and they're all still level.
