Hi all,
Inherited a parkinson perfect vice recently, and want to fit it to my workbench.
Unfortunately it will not tighten up completely, and appears to slip.
I've tensioned the quick release spring, and this seems ok.
But looking at the part of the quick release mechanism that grips the underside of the thread, the thread on this appears to be worn, (teeth broken).
Could this be the problem?
If so, could this be repaired? (welded and re-cut thread maybe)
Any advice would be great.
Take care all

If the teeth on the half nut that engages with the thread are gone, then that would certainly cause those problems. I wouldn't think it was worth trying to get a new one made, as it would almost certainly need a specially made gear hob to recut the thread....... although if you have access to a metalworking lathe, you could cut the thread on a piece of steel tube, then cut this lengthwise and weld it in to position.
But on balance, I think I would look for another one. Having said that, I did weld up the broken slide on the Parkinson I had some 30 years ago!
