During lockdown I’ve used my carpentry skills to make planters etc but have had to buy the timber( decking) from b&q but wonder if there’s a better option, thanks

Around me the builders merchants or specialist fencing suppliers were cheaper.

Stock has been iffy though, may be better now. I needed half a dozen lengths of decking at the start of the first lockdown and had to ring round and take what lengths the place had. Everywhere else was out of stock.

3 weeks ago I put up a new fence and the merchant said that they were still struggling to get any decorative fence panels in. I had to change what I ideally wanted to complete the order.

Depending on how much you need and where the places are, I doubt that there is a fortune to be saved on a planter's worth of decking, but it all adds up. For timber generally I think that there is a price saving and quality difference.

Yep - timber merchant or fencing supplier every time - waaay cheaper than the DIY sheds. Our local fence place has been brilliant through the lockdown(s) as well as the obvious timber-related stuff they have a big range of ironmongery, fixings, tools, stains, paints etc.
