Over the last few months several things have gone wrong in the workshop. First the Dewalt scroll saw packed up but a new motor and £200 lighter in the pocket put that right. Then the belt/disc sander started playing up despite it only being a few months old, it had the same problem as the dewalt, the motor was dying, the supplier replaced it with a brand new one. I have a large drill press that again is only a few months old, the return spring snapped so I had to wind the handle back to the top every time I wanted to use the drill. The manufacturer sent me a new sealed unit that was supposed just to snap back in and Bob's your uncle, no such luck, it had to be wound counter clockwise to wind the spring up but half the drill had to be removed to make this possible and a very tricky operation.
I bought a new Hegner and that had two main problems that Technology supplies sorted out. I wanted the aluminium table replaced with a cast iron one instead of the aluminium one but they only had a cast iron table from an older model, they sent me a pic of it and I was elated, it did not have a blade insert and I asked them to fit the table. I got the saw back on Friday and its a joy to use. Instead of a table insert there is just a very small slot, for me this is great as it supports the work close to the blade. I have never been a fan of inserts. I know they are useful for very fine work where zero tolerance is needed but in the main I hate them. The other good thing is that they increased the speed so it now runs at 1620 instead of 1450 and the difference is noticeable, especially on hardwood. So the workshop is back into full production aain.
