Just finished refurbished some old beech spokeshaves. Bodies were stripped down and individually reshaped;tang holes were made stronger using an industrial 2 part metal putty;new brass fittings were added; and and an ebony coloured lacquer and tinted wax was used to finish them off. Blades were reground flat, then honed till razor sharp.

Wow!

I can hardly believe that's beech, astonishing.

The 3rd spokeshave from the bottom(top picture) was made from a traditional spokeshave and blade. I threaded the tangs to receive the top cap adjusters. A stainless spring and flat washer was also fitted below each cap adjuster to keep the blade under positive pressure during height adjustments. 2 machine screws lock in the final blade set.
The bottom spokeshave is only 6 1/2 " long and is an ideal size to keep handy in top pocket.
