Thought I'd share with you a picture of a pen I've recently turned. The blanks are olive and it is finished with cellulose sealer, cellulose lacquer, and friction polish.

thanks for looking

Lovely!

Coincidentally, I have a load of that wood on its way to me right now. If it looks as good as that, then I will be well pleased. :D

Thanks for the comments, I managed to get the pen blanks last Saturday from Kevin at Earlswood Interiors, very obliging person can highly recommend him if anyone is in the area.

Can anyone suggest a good supplier ( mail order or otherwise ) for pen kits ?

Thanks in advance

Steve

Thanks for the link steve.

Pete, a bundle of 10 blanks cost me £15, but because this is a wood that I hadn't used before I thought I'd give it a go.

Hi yes olive wood is very nice for pens, I make quiet a few of them.

The following two links are a good source of pen kits.

http://www.turners-retreat.co.uk/
http://www.stilesandbates.co.uk

I am lucky in that I live only about 40 miles from Turners retreat.
If you need any help with pen turning please contact me as I am only to willing to help. Next wednesday (22-10-08) I will be demonstrating pen making at my local club The EVWA. http://www.evwa.org.uk/
The following is also a useful site to look at.

My own web site also has a few pens on it.

I may take you up on your offer sometime as this was only my second attempt at a pen, the first one, in ash, ended up in the bin, there is still a lot for me to learn yet.
