Fascinating! Glad I'm not a horse!

Why did this guy remind me of Jacob? :duno: :D

Steve,

Thanks for posting this, it was really enjoyable - and impressive.

Lovely clip........Brilliant old building and machinery (did you see the thicknesser?!!!). I couldn't work out whether it was all powered by a restored water wheel, or whether it was run by an electric powered main and lay shafts.

As an aside, a water powered woodworking mill would be my ultimate dream workshop.

I really enjoyed that 20 minutes!

Mike

edit.......PS I have just read that it is water powered. Excellent!!

That has got to be the ideal! A set of massive, fully powered cact iron machines that are pretty much silent!

Very good 25mins or so. :)

Pete

I think it was fed by water, hence the comments about the beavers and the dam.

Lofty,

Thank you, that is another super video. Just one sad bit - Ben is dead...saw that in the comments.

yes your right Brendan, ben is dead now and his Mill is now a museum. The filming was done in 1980/81.
RIP..

Mike: Did you see the 2nd video? I really rather like the idea of the water powered machinery. Tho I don't like the idea of maintaining it. I wonder if one could produce a modern equivalent?

I'm surprised not much has been said about his safety awareness (or lack thereof). Certainly made me wince at some of the things he did. But he looked like he survived a long life with all limbs intact.
