That's a big question because a lot depends on what sort of look you are after. Oil is OK in a bathroom but it is not the most water resistant of finishes but much depends on what sort of oil you are talking about. Also, most oils tend to darken the wood a fair bit and this may not be what you are after. The video you refer to is of course American and Minwax is not available over here. Many UK people use Osmo Ployx Oil which is one of the more resistant ones and may suit you. It is also simple to apply.

They suggest boiled linseed oil. I don't mind if it darkens the wood a bit whatever finish i use i want it to bring out the grain. Also looking for wax I came across liberon black bison wax. Being a novice I was looking for an easy way to finish anything I make. With the osmo ployx oil would that be used on its own or with wax?

Osmo Polyx Hardwax Oil should not be used with anything else, two thin coats is the recommendation and it's available in Satin-Matt and Matt finishes.
I use the matt version all the time and can't fault it...great stuff! However, once it's completely cured I apply a coat of soft wax over the top with a grey Webrax and then polish with a soft duster, which seems to bring to a slightly more satin finish - Rob
