does anyone have any tips for removing a screwdriver gouge from a finished BB ply piece?
Was trying to tighten clock fitting thing on my first clock using a screwdriver on one side only of the brass collar thingy, just one last tighten...
Does anyone know if there is a special two pronged screwdriver type thing for this?

That's a shame Gill but I'm sure someone will know how. I thought that if you wet the area or used a damp cloth it would raise the grain and then you could lightly sand it out!

you can make a special screwdriver for them if you have an old wide screwdriver and grind a notch off each side so the centre bit fits into the hollow centre of the brass nut.... or grind the centre out of a wide flat blade screwdriver so it leaves two prongs and it will do the same job.

Thanks, panic over, fixed it, exactly as you suggested Pete G, I have lifted dents in the past by damping them and then putting cloth over and using a hot iron, had to do that, then sand off wax, then same again, then sanded carefully and it's gone enough that it can't be felt or seen - yay :)
Will need to try and make a two pronged tool if I am going to use the other two clock movements I have. It's my own fault, was able to tighten them together by holding the brass collar and turning the clock movement at the back, but, being me, I decided to make the whole thing thicker so that it would stand, and cut the hole at the back just big enough for clock and no more, so had to turn the collar - must learn to be patient......

Hi Gill
I am impressed that you called the post "Oh Goodness Me "
After completing a beautiful piece like that and for that to happen , I would have used a lot more colourful language
Regards
Brendan

Glad to hear you removed it Gill, and I'll remember the tip for using the hot iron :)

Just glad I wasn't using a bigger screwdriver and didn't get through the first layer of ply, then the air would have more than a delicate shade of blue.....
the tip about damping and then ironing came from a book on making boxes, has helped me out a lot of times :D
