For a nation with such a litiginous streak it never ceases to amaze me that they have such acavalier attitude to personal safety.
I mean, really, can you imagine for a second being allowed to do that over here?

Impressive though

Gosh, that looks really good - where can I get one? I'm sure my workshop will be a much safer place with that system!!!

If I had that system I'd probably end up putting something in the boxes. Then next time I needed them I'd be faced with two boxes full of stuff to empty before I could use them.

Great idea - can't see any health and safety issues if you are using them yourself and know whjat you are doing... I built a drum sander today but won't let anyone use it and I certainly am not going to modify it to conform to a standard of safety that renders it useless to my purpose.

Doh! wandered off (mentally) when I made my reply - I was actually referring to this from the same website.

What a great idea... don't think that Americans are safety conscious BTW. They are without fear and the commonest proceedure we in this country would nearly always eschew is using a table without a riving knife and dadoing or trenching on this machine :( They really don't seem to care...

You may be surprised to know that use of explosives to split tree trunks or uproot stumps is a common practice in the UK. Usually with more precision and less explosives than in the video though!

I was a bit confused until now, thanks mark, it all makes sense now:

Lurker, It looks like a fancy version of trestles/saw horses to me, great!

Mark, These guys seem to be quite gung-ho but it's from the US... enough said

These people came on the Mayflower from England to America and have been blasting stumps from day one,to clear the land for farming and houses,barns....

I can't tell you how long I looked at those I Beam saw horses looking for the safety flaw, I thought it was me! ;)

I saw that blasting video a few days before. At first I thought it was a loony idea, but the pieces seem to be of usable sizes once exploded. I was expecting firewood.

I remember my Dad telling me about using explosives to split downed trees back in the 1930s. The farmer and the local quarryman were pals and he would pop round with a couple of sticks of dynamite to split trunks that were too big to handle otherwise. I think the timber was only destined for firewood though. There was no Health and Safety Executive in those days so nobody questioned it.
