Just thought i'd share some pics of my latest install with you. Normally it is B&Q kitchens etc, but this customer wanted custom sized sliding wardrobe installation. Each door is 2.2m tall by 1.2m wide. Given their size I had thought about contracting out the door making, but decided to have a go myself. Besides, I had Dan (Tovey) on standby!

Doors are solid oak. Trim is oak faced MDF. To keep the cost down the customer specified MFC internals  5 pelmet lights and 5 kickboard lights (which you can't see cos of the bed).

A pair of bedside cabinets were made like this one

Solid oak tops/drawer fronts, rest made from oak faced MDF.

And finally a radiator cover to finish off

Lovely job there Karl - just want we want! -fancy a trip to West Cumbria?? Failing that  if you don't mind me asking  what was the all in cost (exc labour)? Can I presume the mirrors weren't cheap?

Mark

Thanks for the replies fellas.

Mark - West Cumbria may be a little outside of my area! The total materials cost was about £1300 (not sure of the final figure as not updated my accounts yet). The mirrors were £240 the pair - safety mirror.

Very nice work, Karl.

If you can knock this sort of job out of your garage then it opens up all kinds of possibilities.

I've just done a quick calc and I can't get the material costs to anything like £1300. You must have used some fancy sliding gear for the wardrobe doors!

Hope you earned well out of it.

:D

Quite right - the materials cost was just under £1k. The £1300 figure was off the top of my head.

At least you guessed the right way!

I normally underestimate - which is why I no longer bother working out material costs at all unless there is an exeptional item such as mirrored doors or the sliding mechanism.

I just stick £50 onto my day rate to cover materials - I never spend more than £250 a week on materials so I'm well covered.

For this job I would reckon on 3 weeks in the workshop and 2-3 days fitting.

18 days @ £250 = £4500

Am I close?

Cheers
Dan
