Hi all

Apologies I have been a bit busy of late to get into the forum so I thought I had best post this one that I finished today.

It is burr oak 220mm dia x 220 mm high, with an anjan carved finial and a ceramic bead.

Comments welcome.

take care

Mark

personally i'm not that keen on the top , but thats a matter of personal taste.

thank you for your comment.

Bigsoftmoose.

Thanks for your comment. I have a few pictures of it without the lid on and it totally changes the look. I will post some more tomorrow.

take care

Like the form of the Burr Mark, not the easiest of woods to control that well. The carved "Flame" finial really lifts the whole subject, a turned concentric version would have been too bland in comparison.

I really like your finials Mark. I don't know of anyone else who does quite the same thing. The bead seems to be coming your trade mark as well. Lovely work as always

Thank you for your comment. The burr was a beaut and the guy who I got it from has loads of real high quality and a real reasonable cost.

Thank you. I use to like carving free form sculptures but never had the patience to do them due to the size and time needed. By making them small and putting them on the top of my forms I can satisfy that side of the free forms. I did try concentric finials but for me Cindy Drozda can't be touch on these so I wanted something different. I enjoy them and they seem to work and the possibilities are endless for both materials and shapes.

Thank you very much. I love using the beads and I have sourced some real beautiful ones to try in glass ceramic and metal. Some of them in bright colours which are going to be fun to try out.

I have been asked by an interior outlet to make some lidded forms with beads of certain colours to match the latest interior trends/colours that are in vogue at the moment so I can not wait to do them.

They are becoming my signature which is funny really as I have tried for years to find a signature work and once I gave up they just seemed to evolve out of nowhere.

Take care all and thank you again.

i agree with that - if you've got to have finials then marks carved ones are excellent - I just dont like finials , i guess that makes me a finiaphobe :D

Thank you. The beads are jewellery beads sourced to contrast both material, texture and colour. I wanted to start including different media into my work and beads mean that I can add contrast etc.

I have a few more ideas which I will share once I have finished them.

Nothing wrong with being a finiaphobe. I was the same with the concentric ones. I still struggle now at times as the forms sometimes look as good without.

I am a spindlephobe and can't bare to turn anything that resembles spindle work.

Take care

Stunning piece again Mark :D
Very similar to my favourite piece you made with the hook shape finial.
Lovely looking burrs.
I do like your finials, and they are recognisable as your signature pieces.
So keep em coming :D

Once more Mark. Yet another really nice piece.

PS - I love finials on boxes and forms like this.

Thank you very much for your comment.

Beautiful piece Mark,

Your finial definitely adds something extra in my opinion. :D

That is a lovely piece of burr oak.

Keep them coming, its inspirational.

Absolutely beautiful, as ever !

'Signature beads' ... now that, I like !! they do add an 'unmistakeable Mark Sanger' trademark, and really 'lift' the finials into even more prominence.

I Like Chas' 'flame' anaolgy ... before I'd reached his post, I was thinking the same.. reminds me of a 'logo' that the gas board used to have.. shape wise, i mean.

Contrast - Perfect,
Shape - perfect
Finish - perfect
as John says.. 'exquisite'. That is the perfect word for your work..
Another absolute jewel in wood. - - A true delight to behold, as ever !

Love it 8) 8) :D :D
