Hi folks

I have designed a simple but effective steel shelf add-on for the Nova hybrid lathe stand.

I am having one made for me by a local steel fabricator.

Basically, it fits onto the cast iron bracket on the stand. No need to drill or mod the existing stand.

It will be made from 6mm steel sheet. It is designed for a single 300 x 1000(ish) either steel plate or ply shelf about 6" off ground level (for ballast) and can take up to three additional shelves above (or maybe even a cupboard unit).

When it's made I will post a photo, but in the meantime, is this likely to be of interest to other nova owners?

If so, how much do you think people would pay for them?

And are people likely to want to make their own shelves or want to buy 6mm steel ones? Also would people want them painted or rather raw (or primed) steel to paint themselves?

If this is of general interest, I could get the fabricator to make a number at a time. I suspect postage will be the only issue.

I don't think Alan Sugar would get excited, but I hope others might benefit from my idea.

All the best

Steve

would like to see some photo's steve when you get it, i assume it would fit the DVR XP?

Hi Steve

Yes it should fit the DVR XP. I designed it to work with my new 1624-42, which has exactly the same stand.

I reckon I will have it in about two weeks, so watch this space for pics.

Cheers

Steve, I hope the shelf deal works out well for you ,it will surely add stability to the lathe.
when I got mine it was assembled by me and Clair who knows nothing about machinery
 which is probley more than I do.

I found it hard to get it stable ,and blamed the floor and anything else I could think of.
I had the lathe for a few months before Blister came on one of his visits and discovered that
the legs were not in their proper positions. For those that are not familyer with Nova lathes
the four legs are seperate.Anyway Blister remounted the legs and saved me having a new
floor installed

Anyway I tell you this because Clair has been away for a few days and just in case she might have
dropped in on you dont let her near your lathe   You will really enjoy your lathe it can handle anything you can lift.
best of luck REgards Boysie

Mmm. Did the legs look right? I can't understand how to get them wrong, but if it is possible, I'm sure I will!

Steve,
everyone else would have to try really really hard to get it wrong
but it just comes naturally to me,I've had many years of practise.
