ok, DDay arrived and while i was waiting for DougB to arrive i thought i would just snap the garden

cabinstart3.jpg

so, back to business. DougB arrives cheerful as usual and we begin the build of the lathe.

All boxed up..
cabinstart4.jpg

Doug started by attaching all the legs to the bed ends while i started cleaning up the grease and gunge.
cabinstart8.jpg

we had to lift the bed onto the worktop in order to mount the ends, and believe me, it isn't light.
cabinstart7.jpg

Now i have lost one half of the cabin, i will have to sort out what i no longer need any more so i can have some clear space to work in.

OK,it wasn't long before the first set of legs were on..
cabinstart6.jpg

Shortly after we got the last section done and it stood on its on stand..
cabinstart9.jpg

Finally moved it into its new position in the cabin, looking good.
cabinstart10.jpg

we had a small problem with the tightening of the headstock bolt, but a quick call to Record soon sorted it out..
Yours truely having the first bash on it with a piece of yew..
cabinstart11.jpg

Only fair to let Doug have a go to, this guy is really good..
cabinstart12.jpg

Doug shows me how to turn a mushroom..
cabinstart13.jpg

nearly finished it now
cabinstart14.jpg

Unfortunately due to time factors the mushroom is still on the lathe, i have been to the tip and got rid of loads of rubbish and i have to re-organise the cabin completely. The wife is not sure if she still wants her area to sit and sew in now, so i might have another area to fill shortly..

Just leaves me to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU doug, you are the man, without your help today i would not have been able to do this, you are a gentleman sir, thank you.

Looks great Steve, well done to you both :D
Hope yiu have many many happy days with it,and just watch those turnings churn out now :D

Hi Steve,
Nice garden and cabin!! Oh yes and a bit of great team work to end in such a good result.
As far as the weight is concerned yes they are heavy, our club has one and I have just made four lifting eyes to take pipes to go across each end so we can lift it safely off its trolly at each meeting. Its a nice machine and will give you every reason to turn some great work out. Sorry about the pun!
Regards,
Ian

I'm not sure which impresses me most, the new lathe or that immaculate garden. And if that 'cabin' is your workshop then I am really impressed.

Super job Steve.

That's a great position you have the lathe in with loads of natural light and the pleasure of looking out at your beautiful garden.

Health to enjoy.

Brendan

Good luck with your new lathe Steve, what a neat and tidy garden to look out onto,
pip

what a lovely set up you have steve- if the lathe is staying there it might be worth putting some mesh over the windows.

Good looking setup you have there Steve. :D

That lathe does look the business, you should have hours of fun turning bigger stuff than before. 8)

Enjoy the new lathe!

Andrew

Sorry the DVR is ever so slightly overshadowed by that lovely garden and fancy workshop!!

Well done both. Looks like you now have the perfect setup Steve. You're all set. Hours and Hours of fun ahead of you.

Not Jeleous at all..... :^o

Very nice Steve, and lovely lawn you have there also !

All i can add is to say what an enjoyable day i had, i`m sure Steve will be turning out some super stuff very soon, not that he didn`t before, just bigger.
As has been said Steve has a great set up, in a really nice location, i wish my lawn looked as good as his  :D .

Steve.
Thanks for dinner, (no side effects    ) Hope you`ve managed to re-arrange the cabin, i look forward to seeing the fruits of the new lathe.

PS.
Mrs B recognized me in the photos but not from the description at the end

wow thanks guys, never expected this amount of replies, makes me feel quite humble.
The wife and i spend some time working in the garden, but now more time enjoying it.
The cabin still needs about 1 full day of sorting out and cleaning before its really workable, but i will get onto that next wednesday on my day off.

George
Would like to know what you meant about putting mesh up at the windows, is it in case something flies off the lathe, or someone tries to break in.

Many thanks guys once again, really appreciate it..

Doug, my missus is annoyed at you, and you know why dont you, she is now planing something else

I'd suggest both Steve. But mainly flying objects.

yes both reasons but mainly protection from things flying of- somtimes bark or the piece your working on (hopefully not) but might come of and could easily break the window.

Excellent setup Steve, love the cabin for a workshop, looks a nice chilled layout to work in. Garden looks well too !
