I am putting together a table of timber yards, with information from members who have actually visited the yards. Can you please help with information about Timberline? The link below shows the yards already included in the table.

Are they hobby friendly?

Can you self-select or is it by appointment?

Will they deliver?

Do they have online ordering?

Are prices displayed at the yard?

Do they sell domestic hardwoods?

Do they sell other hardwoods?

Do they sell softwoods?

Do they sell manufactured boards?

Do they sell turning blanks?

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard?

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle?

Do you have any comments?

Thanks for your help,
Neil

Are they hobby friendly? Fairly, but only open Monday to Friday.

Can you self-select or is it by appointment? Entirely self select, if you're "in the club" they might tip you off when interesting loads are due, otherwise you should plan on dropping by as frequently as you can.

Will they deliver? Yes

Do they have online ordering?, On selected items, see their website

Are prices displayed at the yard? Yes, but it's by volume rather than individually priced boards

Do they sell domestic hardwoods? Yes, but they concentrate on exceptional quality boards...often priced accordingly

Do they sell other hardwoods? As above

Do they sell softwoods? As above

Do they sell manufactured boards? No

Do they sell turning blanks? Don't know.

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard? Small, but with a huge reputation for high quality exotics.

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle? Yes

Do you have any comments? If you want the absolute finest quality timber and are prepared to pay the price then this is one of the two or three standout yards in the UK. Bob, the owner, is a luthier and they also stock luthier blanks and sound boards. Also Hamish Low is involved with the yard, and he's pretty much got a lock on good quality Bog Oak (he's the only guy who's figured out how to dry it properly), so if you want Bog Oak then Timberline's your best bet.

Thanks for your help,
Neil
