I am putting together a table of timber yards, with information from members who have actually visited the yards. Can you please help with information about MAC Timbers@Peterborough?
(You can see the timber yards that are already included in the timber yard link below.)

Are they hobby friendly?

Can you self-select or is it by appointment?

Will they deliver?

Do they have online ordering?

Are prices displayed at the yard?

Do they sell domestic hardwoods?

Do they sell other hardwoods?

Do they sell softwoods?

Do they sell manufactured boards?

Do they sell turning blanks?

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard?

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle?

Do you have any comments?

There must be people on here who can help, many of us have met up at Mike's in the past. He has had an enforced relocation recently though and is only just back in business, so most experience will be from the old location. One man (plus partner) band. Definitely hobby friendly, will let you browse but best call ahead so he's expecting you. Locally sourced hardwoods. Some prices marked but not generally. Not the place for manufactured board. Certainly used to do turning blanks. Don't know about delivery, but cutting things to fit the car was Ok. Online shopping ... :lol: :lol:

Since I know Mikes set-up pretty well, heres the complete answers:

Are they hobby friendly? - Yes, Very - Mike mainly deals with hobbyists.

Can you self-select or is it by appointment? - Self selection is possible, but best to call ahead for specifics - not all stock is on site.

Will they deliver? - No.

Do they have online ordering? - No.

Are prices displayed at the yard? - A standard pricelist is available per cu ft. Turning/Carving blanks and some planks are pre-priced.

Do they sell domestic hardwoods? - Yes, Mike is an English hardwoods specialist.

Do they sell other hardwoods? Yes - Mike has a wide selection of different timbers.

Do they sell softwoods? Yes - but limited to some of the less common varities - no dimensional timber.

Do they sell manufactured boards? - No.

Do they sell turning blanks? Yes - huge stock of blanks.

Are they a one-man-band or a small, medium or large yard? One man band.

Will they cut to length to fit in your vehicle? - Yes, and plane/thickness if required.

Do you have any comments? A great yard for your traditional UK timbers, currently all stock is Air-Dried although Mike is looking to invest in a kiln in the future.
