The NYW website enthuses about the improvements made to the Mk1 version of Norm's router table - especially to the storage, electrics and dust extraction system - so I bought a set of plans. Disappointingly, after perusing them, it is clear that the modifications are not included on the plans - which at £10 for a single sheet are not cheap.

I intend to fit an Incra Wonderfence which I shall buy in the US in the autumn. Are there any modifications that those who have made this table would incorporate at the initial building stage?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Did you get the MK 1 plan or the Deluxe Router Station which I am guessing is a later plan.

I made one roughly based on his video but mine sits on an old Workmate so it is only the top half!

I also made it to fit a Woodpecker table top and for dust extraction I used rain water fittings and flexible pipe - the bottom main chamber holding the router has an adjustable flap valve to provide more suck at the cutter end if required.

It's basically a box with drawers (I used metal sliders) and a cupboard which I made out of some old ply. So really you can make it how you like just taking some of the concepts from Norm.

Its quite big this table my mods were to fit castors and not to have pipes at the back with a riser at one side so those draws are shorter with outlet to extractor and flex hose to fence connected to it on the side internal baffles were altered to make it work .

Roger,
It seems like you got the wrong plan. The mods are on the 'deluxe Router Station' numbered 0301P.

They are on a large sheet which I have no way of 'making a back up copy of'

If you get stuck I could loan them to you for the price of the postage but I will need them back!

Thanks guys for all your comments. Having looked up the Router table on the NYW site, I was directed to the Brimarc site, the UK distributer, where stupidly I looked under "R" for Router Table, rather than under "D" for Deluxe Router table! Silly me - Duh!!!

Hi Roger, I put castors on my table and also made the top bigger to allow for the incra positioner, have a look here

Yep - already bought 4 x braked castors. Your RT thread has already provided me with much inspiration thanks. Main concern is to ensure that I incorporate any material improvements to the fence (maybe saving the cost of adding the Incra) and of dust collection. No point reinventing the wheel - mine would only be octagonal! :)

I made the NYW router table way back over xmas holidays 2004, and changed the design of the top to accomodate an Incra fence

Thanks Tony. I see you have the 24" Incra fence. Does that refer to the length of the bar onto which the fence is fixed? I intend to buy the 17" Wonder fence - so would that mean that I have to allow a minimum of 17" between the face of the fence when fully extended and the back of the table? As this will be a retro fit in the autumn I want to make sure that the top is big enough to accommodate it.

Also I note that some of you have mounted the fence sideways to reduce the depth of the table. Any disadvantages to working this way?

You can download the manuals from the Incra website, most of the manuals have the table sizes you need to mount the fences.

Many thanks to all who offered their advice, and especially Bob "9fingers" for his very helpful pdf's. Been busy cutting up sheets of 18mm ply and got so carried away with my new sheet cutting guide that I cut my workmate in half!

No WIP piccies as I get the impression that router table projects have been done to death, and I can't improve (or even hope to match) Martins superb thread on making the same table.

My only advice to others making the same table is to make sure you get the plans for the Deluxe Router table rather than just the Router table! PM me if needed.
