I was looking around the net for one of Norms episodes that showed how to build an extension addon for the small table saws you can get. I didn't find the one I wanted but did find one that added a trolley table to a bigger one.

Well I was amazed! It was like... prehistoric Norm lol... Drills which needed chuck keys... nailguns build like tanks... and a younger looking Norm :D

What made me REALLY laugh was he was still talking about shop safety though but being Norm totally ignored it. During his safety spiel he was shown using a table saw with a safety cover...

... but when he goes to use his own table saw there is no protector and then this popped up over the top...

Mind you... this was back before the days of "Political Correctness" and "Healthy Living". It must have been... Just look at the beer belly on Norm in this shot...

It doesn't seem to be every episode, but I'm sure some of them say something like "Safety guards have been removed for photographic purposes"
As I said on another thread, some of Norms's techniques might look unsafe, but given that he has been doing these shows for about 17 years I guess he's pretty clued up on what's safe & what ain't.

He's actually lost some of the keg belly... errr... beer belly.. since this early episode. Here's a better view of it :p

I don't know how safe or unsafe his practices are, but as a means of reaching the conclusion, I don't think your logic holds. Safety improvements rarely come from people with long experience of doing it their way, more from people with fewer assumptions and prejudices about how things "just are" done. That kind of attitude has long been the bane of the construction industry, for one. In a "well, I've never fallen off a scaffold have I (yet)?" way.
