Le dullard de la commune
I’m looking at a range of small projects for the winter months.
I had decided I wanted to develop my hand skills with various joints – dove tails etc, so I thought I might run up a few boxes.
Most of my projects are done with recycled wood but I had decided I needed some decent hardwood, so had run up a shopping list of oak I wanted, for next time I was passing John Boddies. No rush as I’m busy until well into November.
Yesterday SWMBO had a phone call from one of her friends “ We are having the kitchen refitted tomorrow, does your mad bloke (SWMBO refers to me as Steptoe cos I have a shed full of “junk”) want the old cupboard doors, they are Oak, I think”
Me thinking they would be foil printed MDF, was not that keen but said yes to be polite. An hour later they were delivered to the doorstep.
14 doors of assorted sizes all are pristine solid Oak. Just the panels should yield 20 sq foot of 12mm boards and then there is the wood in the frames. They are so good I’m reluctant to cut them up, but it’s saved me quite a few quid.
It makes you wonder how many rainforests worth of decent wood is actually thrown out every week.
