So I've demolished the old garden shed which was rotting, and heres whats left behind , the worst bit was the hundreds of earwigs falling on my head as I removed the felt ,

Unfortunately a trees roots have broken up the shallow slab which was under the old garden shed/workshop. As you can see below I've begun to remove the last third of the slab which had separated due to the roots growth. However the remaining 2/3 of the slab is only about 15cm deep, I had intended cementing some blocks to this slab and then laying DPM and a tanalised base on top of this , but as its so shallow I think now maybe break it all up and make footings for the base - something like what Carlsberg did in his thread on the forum, What do you all think?

I would clear up the root and use the slab as it is 15 cm is more then enough to carry the weight of your workshop

Some points to keep in mind are:
Is that the root of a live tree?? if yes, then it could be that a new root could push up the concrete (but that could take a long time)

The slab will hold water (puddles) so your base is always laying in water,
Taking up the base and replacing it with what carlsberg did, could avoid the above problem

Good luck with whatever decission you take and have fun building your new workshop
