Hi everyone just ordered my new saw from axminster. Its an excaliber ex 30 :D Just wondered what the difference was between this model and the axminster ex 30 :?:
Never had any woodworking experience before but im really looking forward to using the saw.
Got to order some blades for it now so any advice would be greatly welcomed. (hammer)

Welcome stevesnewsaw. Your pictures will not show up until you have three (think it's three) posts on here. I don't know about the Axminster saws myself but someone else will.

Hi Steve,
Welcome to the forum the other guys/gals will be along later.
I recently got the Axminster EX30 and what a monster it is! don't know if you have ordered the metal stand for yours? but if not make sure you have a VERY solid bench to put it on as it weighs a ton.... it doesn't vibrate much so no worries there.
I love mine and I'm sure you will when yours arrives. The biggest difference between the Excalibur EX30 and the Axminster EX30 i can see is the Axi has a NVR switch and different paint finish. Regarding blades I always use Pegas from Axminsters and they work fine (I mentioned on my other thread about the blades not snapping on the EX30 and they still haven't......unlike my other Axi saw which tends to snap them for some odd reason, they are both great saws and built like tanks)
I can recommend making a mdf/plywood table cover for your EX30 to protect the painted table finish that doesn't seem very tough.
Looking forward to seeing how you get on with it and hopefully we will be able to help if you need any tips in the future.
Cheers
Brian
ps Why did you decide to get the EX30? most people seem to got for the EX21 or EX16...... i only went for the 30 for the big table for my Intarsias but all the others are identical apart from the table length.

Welcome to the forum Steve.

Happy scroll sawing, warning it is addictive.

Chris.

another giant scroll saw, some of us are going to start suffereing from table envy. :)

have fun with it, they are rather useful machines, mine gets used like a band saw half the time. :)

"mine gets used like a band saw half the time" same here I have cut planks in half on my scroll saw which is something you cannot do on my bandsaw due the the throat depth and it also doubles as a surf board in summer (too cold for it now)

funny isn't it. once you have a tool you find other ways it can be used. at the moment I'm using up scrap MDF (which is really all MDF is to be fair) to make work trays and storage boxes in the garage, I could cut them all by hand, but the scroll saw is just sat there, so although it's only cutting straight lines it gets used. shame I cant resaw on it, so that's being done by hand at the moment, although that is for a scrollsaw project I guess. lol
