Hello

This is my first post so please excuse my ignorance!

My wife is interested in starting making wooden toys and has shown interest in a new scrollsaw. We have read many posts on here and on the internet. Like most people we started looking at the sub £100 machines but we feel like we would like a better quality model, however it is only for light hobby use.

We have narrowed our search down to the following two machines: -

Peugeot 402 PV with foot switch

Scheppach 405

Both machines are the same sort of price, the peugeot being slightly cheaper.

Has anyone got any real experience of either machine before we dive in?

Any feedback or beginners advice would be greatly appreciated

Regards

Barrie

Thanks for your reply on PM

I have replied to you via email as being a new member i can't use the PM system yet.

That's a pity replying by PM, that means the rest of us don't learn anything. And boy, have I got a lot to learn?

I am not familiar with the two machines you have ear marked. If your wife is going to make wooden toys and its going to be long term then you need a decent scroll saw, light use does not really enter the equation. You really need a machine with a good quick change clamp system, ideally it will have variable speed and a cast iron table. When bolted down to a suitable bench or stand there will be no vibration. I would not use the blades that come with the saw if you buy new, you will be disappointed with the results, buy blades from Mikes workshop, he is the main man for blades. Oh yes, don't buy a saw that only takes pinned blades, you want clamps that take pinless blades. I think you will find that both machines you mentioned are made in the far east. In your shoes I would save a bit more money and look for a used Hegner or Delta on e-bay.
