My old sander has packed in. So I am on the lookout for a new one.

I don't want to spend a mint, but want something reliable and, most importantly, with good dust extraction.

I am not sure whether to go for a ROS, or a palm sander. The latter seem cheaper, but presumably for a reason. There is a little DeWalt which I had hold of in B&Q toady - about £50, seems nice. Then there is a DW ROS at around £100, or the Triton ROS was in stock for £30.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

I prefer my palm sander but I'd like the Triton to complement it. I think the Metabo 150mm is too big and heavy for most work.

Hi Karl,

Ive got the Triton ROS from B&Q for £27.00, and for that price think its a really good buy.

Comes in a nice box aswell.

The only problem you might have is laying your hands on one. I think Ive seen them floatong around on e-bay from time to time.

Phil - my local B&Q have about 4 of the Triton sanders on the shelf - £29 IIRC.

Do you use dust extraction with yours? If so, what's it like?

Same Q to Tom - what's the DX like on the DW palm sander?

Cheers

I guess it depends on what you want to do... If you're wanting to clean up table tops and larger surfaces then a random orbit sander would probably best-suit your needs. I wouldn't like to use a 6" sander on anything narrower than this though, or you'll 'ease off' the edges... For smaller work and working in constricted spaces, an orbital palm sander would be a good buy - you can get a good quality one of those for around £50.

dust ex is not bad, bit of an odd connector. But then I've only used it with abranet.

I have a dewalt palm sander which is good and the bag collector gets pretty much all of the dust. It is great for small parts and edges but it hasnt quite got enough grunt to do large areas easily, but will manage it albeit a little slower than a larger sander.

I've got a couple of Bosch ROS's on the shelf as spares for when the Festools go in for repair.

They are excellent. You're welcome to borrow one and try it out.

See you Wednesday.

Cheers Dan/Brad/Alch - can you bring one with you on Wed?

Karl,

I`ve just got the 150mm DW ROS, a fantastic bit of kit but I suspect too heavy for site work.
