Just thought I'd share my latest scroll saw box with you. Hinges have always been a problem on this sort of box, so I made up my own design and used metal pins for the hinges. The lid is obeche and the sides are pine.

After making it I did some pyrography on it to finish it off.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice and unusual design, any chance of seeing the hinge? (if its top secret design i understand so no worries) I recently saw a wooden box at a craft fair that had a very funny mechanism inside where by pressing tiny dowels it actually expanded to nearly double the size and had Celtic Knotwork scrolled into the top, i couldn't work out how he did it and would have bought it but they wanted £45 for it and although it had obviously had lots of time spent on it I'm saving up for my own workshop kit.
As a newbie to the forum i am trying to read up on as many techniques and what gear i need and also planning my own designs.
Cheers
Brian

Hi Claymore,
The hinges aren't a secret and they are pretty simple. When I cut the sides for the box I left a lug at the top. I then drilled a small hole through this and the into the lid and connected the two with a piece of metal wire that I pinched out of my wife's crafting stuff.

Here is a photo of the box with the lid open.

Hi Samfire. Nice box and I agree with Chris R as the Pyrography really does make for a great finish !
